Taoism

The watercourse way
China · Lao Tzu & Zhuangzi (~6th–4th c. BCE)

The soft overcomes the hard; the still governs the moving; the way that can be named is not the Way.

Core Teaching

Taoism follows the Tao — the nameless source and pattern of all that is, the current that runs through nature. Its wisdom is not to impose but to align: to act by wu wei, effortless action that moves with the grain of things rather than against them. The sage empties, yields, and returns to the uncarved simplicity (pu) from which forced striving separates us. Like water, which nourishes all and contends with none yet wears away stone, the Taoist finds strength in softness and fullness in emptiness.
